A combative local derby in which the pace and
power of a strong Raunds Tigers prevailed in the end over
a gallant Thrapston effort.
Raunds started brightly but it was Thrapston who took the
lead from a thumping Ryan Wright header from a corner. Raunds
replied when weak defending allowed easy access to the Thrapston
goal. Alexander Palmer swung the advantage back to Thrapston
when the compliment of poor defending allowed him easy access
to goal. However Thrapston were to concede two soft goals
just before half time to trail at the interval 2-3.
The second half was a much more even battle as both teams
tried to assert their authority. A soft penalty for handball
gave Raunds a 2 goal cushion but Thrapston showed great character
to fight back and with 2 minutes Palmer had scored his second
to give hope, but alas too little too late.
A tough encounter that Raunds edged due to their desire and
determination being greater than Thrapstons.
