Thrapston Town 1 v Rushden Rangers 3
A training diet during the week of WD40 and raw meat helped
blow away the cobwebs seen last week and produced a spirited
and all round competitive team performance.
Thrapston ceased the early initiative and were 1- 0 within
5 minutes as Ryan Caller opened his account for the season
from an exquisite through ball from Morrison. Thrapston were
posing most of the questions but allowed Rushden back into
the game with a soft penalty converted in the 13th minute.
In the 19th minute Rushden took the lead when Thrapston failed
to clear their defence and Rushden took full advantage to
poach home a second goal. The first half scoring was completed
when from a corner the Thrapston defence played statues to
allow a free header to be powerfully rammed home.
Half time 1-3 to Rushden
Two substitutions were made (one enforced and one tactical)
and some positional alterations made to accommodate the new
players. The changes certainly stiffened our defensive resilience
and competitiveness, and the team had a much more balanced
look reflected in their second half performance.
No goals were scored in the second half but the game was
not short on excitement. Both teams had their chances without
anyone dominating the proceedings and all the spectators were
treated to a hard fought competitive match played in a spirit
that would have done the Ashes series credit.
Well played the team(s), we asked for commitment and there
was commitment. If we can cut out the silly mistakes (schoolboys
make schoolboy errors) we will become a team that opponents
will fear to meet.
Man of the match: Liam Carter – led the team from the
front.
Mathew Hansord, Harry Doubleday, Liam Carter, Cameron Glynn,
