Thrapston 1 v Ise Lodge Eagles 1
Slightly battle fatigued following their storming performance
the previous day against Rothwell Aztecs, Thrapston hosted
Ise Lodge Eagles in a mid table battle.
On an extremely bumpy pitch that often undermined footballing
skills it was the Eagles who soared into an early lead following
a series of defensive blunders that allowed Ise Lodge access
through the heart of the Thrapston defence.
The Eagles marshalled the dangerous Thrapston attack very
well and when they did manage to breach the defences the Eagles
keeper was in imperious form completing a string of fine saves.
It was Ryan Wright who drew Thrapston level when for the second
time this weekend he stole in at a corner to nudge the ball
over the line (a feat he nearly replicated later in the half).
Half time all square and all to play for.
The second half was dominated territorially by Thrapston
who, prompted from midfield by William Morrison and Ryan Wright,
pressed hard in search of the winner and although creating
good chances from some good football could never find the
mark. The Eagles too had their chances on the break and could
feel aggrieved when missing some gilt edged chances.
So a keenly competitive match played in a sporting manner,
which demonstrated that in this league there is not much to
choose between the vast majority of teams. As stated earlier
the pitch did not assist in playing football and there were
times when some excellent football was played, but there were
still a lot of basic errors which could prove costly in other
matches.
