Parkland Tigers Youth 2 v Thrapston Town 1
An afternoon kick off in the County Cup with the golden rays
of a late autumnal sun bathing the pitch in a magnificent
hue, the scene is set for a lovely strole in the park –
unfortunately judging by the first half experience that’s
what the team expected as well but this was anything but a
stroll.
Little to commend in a first half performance where Thrapston
were out played, out fought and outed on most things, it was
lucky no one had trimmed their finger nails as we clung on
for dear life. Desperate defending kept the deficit to just
2 goals in the first half as our boys took a mauling from
the Tigers.
So at half time we had a chance to lick our wounds re-group,
re-focus and have a crash course in tiger taming. The second
half saw a more convincing performance without Thrapston ever
actually taking the game by the scruff of the neck, well not
until the last few minutes.
Jamie Payne prodded home the ball in a goalmouth scramble
with just a few minutes left on the clock – and if you
remember from last weeks report, well that bugler reappeared
and was sounding the last charge again. The kitchen sink et
al were sent forward in the hope of a late equaliser and extra
time but alas too little too late and just as the sunset,
so our hopes faded in this competition.
Commendations for the players attitude to keep going right
to the end and nearly manufacture a result, but again as last
week, at this level you cannot give the opposition a 30 minute
and 2 goal head start before even starting to play.
