Ise Lodge 4 v Thrapston 0
Have you heard the story of Icarus the man who discovered
he could fly with wings made of feathers and wax and how he
crashed to earth when he flew too close to the sun. Well,
the story can be related to the U12’s – with their
“sun” being the cup semi-final against Rockingham
Forest where they soared so high and could have won but ever
since then have free fallen in terms of performance and effort.
Whatever became of the feathers – well the management
are spitting them at the moment!
The game was full of surprises – the biggest one seeing
a Tottenham fan enlightening the referee on the technical
aspects of the laws of the game!!? What’s more he knew
them better than the referee who kindly thanked him (another
surprise) and suggest he gets down to Highbury before it is
pulled down to pass on his profound wisdom to those more in
need.
As for the football we had our chances early on but did not
have the luck or as the game progressed, conviction to take
them. The performance deteriorated and this could be put down
to poor choice of equipment by the players; with the goalkeeper
accidentally packing his Teflon gloves and outfield players
generally wearing banana skin boots which made just staying
on their feet a triumph and accounted for the high percentage
of miss and missed kicks!
Bright moments: great to have Alexander Palmer back who played
with great enthusiasm following his return from injury; Alex
Barlow looked accomplished at full back (great versatility),
William Morrison worked tirelessly (and came off with dirty
knees) and Ross Munro although only playing the second half
showed how good a technical player he is as well as some steel.
We were warned when doing our level 1 coaching badge that
to be wary of a certain age when the boys will seem lethargic,
leaden footed and disinterested and this could be often diagnosed
as a reaction to significant growth surges. Judging by the
severity of the symptoms displayed in the U12’s at the
moment we are looking forward to a team of 7 footers! Bang
the drum put on the war paint because Tuesday we do battle
with the vastly improved Generals Red who will be looking
to reap revenge.
