Wilbarston Wanderers 1 v Thrapston 7
…and the sun shines on the righteous, in fact it radiated
down on a Thrapston team that produced a maelstrom of football
that wore down a plucky, but eventually bedraggled and well
beaten team of opponents.
Up hill and against a freshening wind the elements were
not in Thrapston’s favour, and then with the additional
burden of being asked to play inside out, would this erode
our confidence? Luckily it was only the Thrapston shirts that
had to be turned inside out to avoid a colour clash, but it
was soon the turn of Wilbarston to play twister as Thrapston
applied the pressure and stormed at them.
Ryan Caller claimed his first in the 14th minute with a thundering
header from a beautiful cross, hailed in from Alexander Palmer.
Shortly afterwards Palmer was to get his name on the score
sheet when Munro drizzled down the wing, crossed pinpoint
to Palmer who calmly slotted home – a gentle swell of
expectation was now rising from eager parents. On the stroke
of half time Caller claimed his second with a training ground
move; Love released Palmer who once again left the defender
in his vapour trail find his lightning striker partner Caller
– half time 3-0 to Thrapston.
An excellent first half performance but the question was
weather we could maintain the pressure and climate of play?
No problem and within a few minutes route one football had
paid dividends. A torrential goal kick from Hansord freed
Caller who left the Wilbarston defense in a haze for his hatrick.
Palmer was again to feature on the score sheet as Caller turned
provider as he once again “mist-ified” Wilbarston.
Thrapston suffered slight turbulence as the defense, which
had shown no signs of erosion previously; stalled for a whistle
that never came and they paid the price by conceding a goal.
This was soon a foggy memory as Tyrone Love rained in a 30
yarder a seasons first for him. Caller concluded the torrent
of goals sliding home a magnificent 30 yard through ball from
Gadsby.
A brilliant display of sunshine football and what was most
gratifying was that many of the goals came from tactics practised
on the training pitch – boys this was definitely first
class POO!
Man of the match: Graeme Wright – his quality shone
through.
