Rockingham Forest 1 v Thrapston Town 1 (5 -
1 aet)
Underdogs Thrapston gave undefeated league leaders
Rockingham Forest a scare in this keenly contested League
Cup semi final, eventually running out of steam in extra time,
conceding 4 goals to leave a score line that flattered the
eventual winners.
The first half belonged almost exclusively to Rockingham
who carved out many good openings but had only the one goal
to show for their dominance.
A half time restructure of the defence shawed up the left
side and Thrapston suddenly became a much more cohesive unit.
Credit to the players who showed great commitment and from
a corner in the 42nd minute Ryan Caller slammed the ball home.
The match opened up and the game swung from end to end as
both teams slugged it out toe to toe looking for the knock
out blow – but this was not to happen in normal time.
Extra time proved a step too far for Thrapston and “the
next goal will be crucial” proved so; Thrapston’s
heads sunk and hearts failed and Rockingham ran in 4 goals
to book their place in the final.
An exciting and extremely entertaining match – well
played by all involved.
