Beaten but not defeated was the result for Thrapston as they lost with literally
the last kick of the game in what was a ding-dong battle between
2 very committed teams.
Thrapston looked the most dangerous early on with their twin
strike force of Palmer and Caller causing alarm in the Wilby
ranks. However Wilby looked the more constructive in approach
play and took the lead in the 15th minute after indecision
in the Thrapston defence. Unbowed Thrapston bounced back and
the “never say die” Ryan Caller pounced on a through
ball to square the game.
The second half was real nip and tuck with Thrapston’s
reborn confidence lifting their game and with that belief.
Against the run of play another defensive lapse allowed Wilby
to sneak the lead. Bounce back meant that with 10 minutes
to go Palmer crashed home a spectacular 20 yard drive.
This was not to prove the goal which Thrapston deserved o
secure a shared point because on the stroke of full time Wilby
stole a victory from a well flighted free kick converted at
the back post – oh how cruel football can be.
