Corby Hellenic Fisher 2 v Thrapston 0
Thrapston battled hard against a very strong Hellenic side
and acquitted themselves very well in an absorbing and very
entertaining match.
Thrapston started the brighter and exerted early pressure
on Hellenics and with some luck could easily have had an early
lead as the dangerous Palmer terrorised the Hellenic defense.
Thrapston held the upper hand for large periods of the half
but could not turn chances into goals.
Hellenics clawed their way back into the game and just before
half time against the run of play. From wide on the Thrapston
right Hellenics were given far too much time to line up their
cross shot which flew through a melee of players into the
net.
The second half was the first in reverse with Hellenics gaining
the ascendancy and the Thrapston defense was put under increasing
pressure however Hellenics did convert one of their chances.
Thrapston failed to clear the danger zone and an astute diagonal
pass allowed Hellenics to steal in to take a two-goal advantage.
Thrapston did not carry the same threat as the first half
until Palmer was re-introduced but the well-marshalled Hellenics
defense managed to stand resolute and snuff any dying hopes
Thrapston had of clawing their way into the match.
This was a hard fought battle against a very strong opposition.
Thrapston acquitted themselves with distinction all over the
park especially in midfield where Love, Caller Morrison and
Davies worked exceptionally hard for the cause.
Nothing to be ashamed of losing to one of the strongest teams
in the league – we came, we competed and we nearly conquered.
This performance was as satisfying as last weeks because we
demonstrated that there is little between us and the big guns
of the league.
Man of the match: Liam Carter – solid defending.
