Four clean sheets and 40 goals added to the tally from the
last four games meant both spirits and confidence were high
before today’s game. Rightly so, the quality of football
and effort has improved week by week from all the squad.
Today’s game may not decide which team wins the title
at the end of the season but it may well be decisive in which
teams are promoted. Having only lost one game to date Harborough
Town came to Thrapston looking for all three points and while
not being prolific goal scorers, one of the better Keepers
in the division supported by a tight back four made Thrapston
dig deep.
Wingers Jack Rawcliffe and Jordan Ward worked hard keeping
the pressure on but lack of vision meant goals were slow coming.
Despite very little activity in the Thrapston 18 yard box
it took a free kick taken by Ryan Kirk assisted by Carlos
Lewis to break the impasse as Reece Evans took the first of
his hatrick after 18 minutes.
Paul Spicker provided the opportunities for Reece to take
his second and third goals in the first half after 26 and
31 minutes to finish the first half 3-0.
Various substitutions at half time saw a quicker Harborough
team in the second half and Danny Smith’s relentless
running and determination was needed to take some of the pressure
off Centre Backs Ryan Kirk and Will Smith. Matti Watts continues
to improve in his second full game of the season, his performance
winning him Man of the Match.
