Thrapston Town 4 South Rushden 0
With 5 clean sheets and 15 points from the last 5 league
games Thrapston’s greatest danger today was over confidence.
A much improved South Rushden soon put paid to that bringing
the team down to earth very quickly.
Reece Evans opened the scoring picking up on a good through
ball from Carlos Lewis within the second minute of the game
but it took another 20 minutes before the second. Reece again,
but this time setting up Jordan ward perfectly [positioned
on the back post to make it 2-0.
Nerves set in from time to time and the “av’
it” factor started to creep in as the boys began to
realise this was not going to be a walk in the park. The half
time whistle was welcomed by both Managers, South Rushden’s
who thought they were still in with a chance and Thrapston’s
to turn on the latent quality we all know is there.
Rushden defended well in the second half as a superior Thrapston
totally dominated the last 35 minutes of the game. Ryan Kirk
(MOM) supported by Will Anns, Kyle Fox and Matthew Watts shut
the door on the Rushden forwards on the few occasions they
managed to create chances. Encouraged by the half time talk
Thrapstons quality passing repeatedly carved a way through
the opposition as chance after chance was stopped by Rushdens
Keeper until a calm Reece Evans chip from close range made
it 3-0.
Paul Spicker made it 4-0 finishing a superb cross from Jordan
Ward shortly after a Kyle Fox shot hit the post to end the
game with Thrapston’s sixth league clean sheet. It should
have been more, the final score does not demonstrate Thrapstons
second half domination.
Club Chairman and today’s referee John Wisniewski’s
words of praise to all the players after the game for both
the quality of the team’s football and their attitude
show we are on the right road.
Well done boys! Another excellent performance today as a
result of the hard work on and off the pitch this season.
