Corby Hellenic Fisher Youth 4 - Thrapston Town
1
Thrapston's new management team were looking
for an improvement over last year's results as a kick start
to the new season and despite the final score, things looked
promising for the new campaign.
Thrapston started brightly, the team defending well against
Hellenic's direct attack. Alex Jennings’s fought well
up front in his debut, along side Jason Styles, but neither
could make a clear chance early on. Hellenic took the lead
on 15 minutes, after Thrapston failed to clear their lines.
Shortly after Hellenic added to their total, a cross from
a dubiously offside player was dropped by the Thrapston keeper,
for the striker to finish. Thrapston used the new substitution
rules to good effect, sub Matt Wright creating a good chance
before half time but shot high.
The second half saw similar pressure from Hellenic, and soon
were three goals up after Thrapston failed to clear from the
long through ball. Hellenic added a fourth with ten minutes
to go, again from a long ball situation. Thrapston didn't
give though, and with 5 minutes remaining pressed for a consolation
goal. Simon Smith crossed the corner, clearing the defence,
to Craig Mattingley who shot and scored a great goal.
Final score 4 - 1.
Manager's comments - despite the result, the team performed
well, team spirit was high, and clearly everyone had been
concentrating on the work done at the previous training sessions.
Well done.
