With Thrapston looking for their first win of
the season after some recent good form it was unfortunate
that Cottingham scored first after the defence failed to clear
a crossed ball from the left. On the restart, new player Tatty
(Adam Tutty), dribbled from the half way line, cutting through
the home sides defence and shot passed a diving keeper to
level the score at 1 - 1. Both teams pressed for the break,
but it was Cottingham who scored on the stroke of half time
to go in 2 - 1 up.
The second half saw Thrapston up their tempo
and were soon level after some excellent pressure culminating
in a shot from Jason Styles that crept in at the near post
making it 2 - 2. Thrapston pushed for the lead but couldn't
finish their chances and then were caught on the break and
allowed Cottingham to score twice, one a good shot beating
the keeper from 30 yards out. Thrapston were not finished
though and soon were a goal closer, following an award of
a penalty for hand ball. The keeper dived and saved the shot
but Kai Robinson followed up to score from the rebound to
make it 4 - 3.
Kai Robinson remained lively in midfield throughout
the game, causing a number of problems with his direct runs
and went close on a number of occasions after good shots.
Unfortunately, as seems to be the way this season, the home
side scored on the break again and with seconds to go to the
final whistle were awarded a penalty, which they converted,
to make the final score 6 - 3.
