Corby Kingswood Juniors 6 - Thrapston Town 0
Thrapston, looking for their first win of the
season, changed their formation to a more attacking one for
this County Cup, with George Gardener up front for the first
time this season. As in previous weeks, Thrapston started
well, Jacon Sanders taking up the central defending role commanding
the role well. Thrapston were first to the ball on many occasions
and the first ten minutes of the half was firmly played in
the Kingswood half. Unfortunately, the away side were caught
on the break though and the striker slotted passed a diving
keeper.
Heads didn't drop though and Thrapston were
matching Kingswood an all areas of the park. When Kingswood
did break, Thrapston's defence did well to keep the home side
out, Rob Cunningham having a good game alongside Jacob. Thrapston's
keeper, Oli Ventham also making some good saves to thwart
the Kingswood strikers.
With fifteen minutes to go in the first half,
and Thrapston looking for the equaliser, George Gardener challenged
for a loose ball with the defender and fell heavily on his
leg. After being carried off, and following some medical attention,
it was decided that an ambulance should be called. The game
was then suspended once it arrived for ten minutes, until
the ambulance had left the ground, with George! It was later
confirmed that he had fractured his leg!
Thrapston held on until the half time leaving
the score 0 - 1 at the break.
The second half saw Thrapston battle well, but
Kingswood's attack were too quick and the defence were caught
too many times and soon after the break were three goals up
in a short time. Thrapston didn't give up though and still
pressed for goals, Josh Catchpole having an excellent game
at left back driving play forward. With fifteen minutes to
go, once again, Thrapston were caught on the break to go 4
- 0 down. With the game seemingly lost, Thrapston still battled
on, and some good work by Jason Styles led to a shot from
him which hit the crossbar and went over. Further chances
were created but again the long ball to the quicker Kingswood
strikers led to two more goals.
The final score ended 6 - 0 to Knigswood, but
Thrapston can take a lot from this game as there were a number
of positives despite George's injury.
