After 3 seasons of small sided football, today was our
last game so we were looking for a good performance to
finish off. With the team determined to go out on a high
we took the game to Desborough right from the start. With
Harry bossing things in the middle and spreading the play,
Desborough did well to hang on for 10 minutes before a
tap in from Max, after some good work by Alistair gave
us the lead 1 - 0. The way we were moving the ball and
using the full width of the pitch was testimony to the
hard work that has been put in by this group of players
in training and a joy to watch. With Joe and Charlie at
the back coming out with the ball and supporting the midfield,
Desborough were very much on the back foot. From some great
work by Liam on the left Harry hit a cracking shot to send
us to the break 2 - 0 to the good.
2nd Half. With us now bombing forward in the search
for more goals, the game was becoming more open and Desborough
began to stage a bit of a fight back and only a superb
goal line clearance from Charlie prevented Desborough from
pulling one back. At the other end we started to take control
again and Max scored his 2nd after some superb build up
play. Harry then scored another from a rocket of a shot.
Then came one of the best goals I've seen this season and
it came from Desborough. Their centre forward controlled
the ball just inside our half and hit an unstoppable shot
passed Kern 4 - 1. Charlie then cleared off the line again
after a fumble from Kern. Then to finish the season on
a high Max finished off another good move to make the final
score. 5 - 1.
A very entertaining match and a great way to finish
small sided football. This group of players have been a
pleasure to coach over the last 3 years and are now more
than ready for the step up to 11 aside.
A very big thank you to all the parents and friends
for their support over the last 3 seasons.
