With this being our last game of the season to finish 3rd
we needed a win and for other results to go our way.
Following our poor display a couple of weekends ago the
squad had been left in no doubt as to what was expected…nothing
less than a win would be acceptable.
Thrapston started the game well and within 2 minutes were
1 – 0 up, when Jake Lockart chased a lost cause ball
and scored from the minutest of angles. Thrapston continued
to harass and close down Rockingham giving them no time on
the ball and we soon went 2 up when a great cross was well
finished by Luke Stevens. Rockingham then began to battle
back and Thrapston conceded just before half time when the
central defense went to sleep and allowed Rockingham to score.
Thrapston started well in the second half but found that
Rockingham had obviously learnt from the first half and closed
us down at every opportunity, in what was an excellent second
half for both teams. Thrapston managed to preserve and hold
on to their lead to the final whistle, this was however after
enduring a few heart stopping moments and some very lucky
escapes.
With the our win in the bag all we could do was wait for
the result from the Ise Lodge vs Kettering Generals game
to come through, any thing less than a win for Ise would
mean Thrapston could finish as low as fourth or even 5th,
However, Ise Lodge won cementing an excellent 3rd place in
our inaugural season of 11 aside football. Well done boys.
