Thrapston Town
2 v Weekley Rovers Purple
1
Thrapston made it five games undefeated, four of them victories
with victory today against Weekley Rovers. They did it, but
were holding on at the end.
Thrapston started with the wind at their backs and were
struggling to make any clear cut chances before Luke
Rivet poked the ball goal wards, it took a deflection and
some how bobbled in to the net to give Town the lead.
Moments before half time Sam Gallagher launched the ball
from fully 30 yards, high up it caught on the omni-present
King John gale and drifted over the keepers head in to the
net to give Town a 2 goal advantage at the break.
In the second half, things were always going to be difficult,
playing against the breeze. However, Town didn’t help
themselves. They lost shape in the midfield, the thing that
has improved most in the recent turnaround in performances
and so the back four and keeper were under constant pressure.
When the ball was cleared it was too easily given to Weekley
who then launched it further forward.
They got one back mid way through the half and from then
on it was backs to the wall stuff. However, Town did
hold on and came away with the points.
Final Score Thrapston Town Two, Weekley Rovers One
MOTM – After a month out injured and still not fit
enough to resume his outfield role, Tom Alsop went in goal
as cover for Alex Vitue, who was away visiting the Theatre
of Screams, and put in a very tidy performance between the
sticks to earn the MOTM accolade.
