Burton Youth 0 v Thrapston Town
2
They say that winning becomes a habit. This was just one
of the touchline utterances heard today from the Town supporters
basking in the sunshine and pronouncing on events as they
unfurled before them, now in a confident, expectant mood
each Sunday morn.
On a difficult hard and bumpy pitch and with the sun beating
down, this encounter was never going to be pretty, and so
it proved.
Town completely dominated the first half, with Alex Vitue
a spectator throughout – some factor 15, a knotted
hankerchief, and a deckchair would have made the half more
enjoyable for him, as he watched events from afar.
However, Town didn’t convert pressure in to goals
and at the break were grateful to Connor Morson for unleashing
an unstoppable twenty yarder to give them the lead.
The second half was a much more even affair with Vitue summoned
from his deckchair to make a fine save against an on rushing
attacker. However, Town doubled their advantage when Tom
Alsop lobbed the keeper from 12 yards. Despite a couple of
scares Town held on to make it unbeaten in six and to record
their first clean sheet of the season.
So winning does indeed become a habit, parrots can be sick,
and one can indeed traverse the moon. Taking one game at
a time, we now look forward to next week at the Azteca Stadium
in Rothwell.
Final Score Thrapston Town Two, Burton Youth Nul.
MOTM – On the day that that elusive clean sheet was
finally achieved, fitting then that the MOTM award should
go to one a the back four. For his running and covering the
award went today to Chris Gardener.
