Corby Kingswood Swifts 1 v Thrapston Town
8
With the weary pressure of expectations lifted, Thrapston
entered today’s’ game as confirmed league champions
and turned in a performance worthy of league champions, full
of flowing attacking football. But credit to a spirited Kingswood
team who had a major contribution to play in an excellent
game of football.
A wonderful gesture by Kingswood forming a guard of honour
to clap the crowned champions on to the field set the tone
for an open and honest encounter and it was Thrapston who
settled quickest. The enigmatic Alexander Palmer settled
any nerves early with the first of his four goals to cap
an incredible season. Alex Barlow screamed in a Berbotovesque
effort open up his account for the season and Tyrone Love
showed great composure to show what a clinical finisher he
can be to acclaim Thrapston’s third. The first half
was rounded off with Palmer scoring the fourth to give a
comfort margin.
So to the second half and an exciting gamble by the Thrapston
management as William Gadsby made a 180 degree turn around
to become centre forward and produce some of the most entertaining
football of the day. Raiding with the guile of an apache
Indian the “Gadders”, wrecked havoc whilst mesmorising
the crowd with a virtuoso performance a la Ronhaldinho – but
alas he was not to claim a place on the score sheet.
John Davies ghosted in at the far post for an assassins
goal (silent but deadly), Palmer added a second half brace
and the injured Ryan Caller dragged weary bones on to complete
the scoring and a historic season with a well taken tap in.
Kingswood scored what was a consolation goal, which was
scant reward for all their attacking flair, and on another
day could have run Thrapston closer.
A league title no matter what level is achieved through
hard work, dedication and a squad of motivated players – Thrapston
U13s have distinguished themselves this season as a footballing
team worthy of their title. Thank you to everyone associated
to with the team for their support and dedication this year – a
year that will always be remembered for the right reasons – CHAMPIONS!
