The final game of an exciting first season for both players
and coaches saw Thrapston finish off a 3 game unbeaten run
with a 2-1 win over Ise Lodge Hawks.
Both teams had improved considerably since the start of the season and this was
evident as a tough battle marked the first ten minutes. The few chances Thrapston
had were defended well by the Hawks while John was solid again in defence with
Jake, Peter and Adam tracking back to help out.
Aiden came on before the break in an attacking role but was denied the goal he
was looking for.
The deadlock was broken following a huge kick from Mathew that took a couple
of good bounces on the hard pitch. Peter chased it and with the outside of his
foot put it past the Hawks keeper. The second half saw Thrapston in a very attacking
formation as Fergus, Tom, Kyle and Dominic came on.
It left us a bit exposed at the back on occasions but some
good tracking back prevented a goal.
As Thrapston kept pushing forward, Fergus was brought down
in the box. Stepping up himself, he nearly broke the net
with the power of his penalty. Hawks got a goal back after
a cruel deflection from Tom sent Mathew diving to his right.
He got his fingers to it but it was just not enough.
In the last minute, exposed again at the back the Hawks had
a breakaway chance that was only prevented by a fantastic
dive down to his left from Mathew.
A game winning save if ever there was one.
A great way to end the season.
MOM: The whole team. A great performance and tremendous
improvement throughout the year.
Steve and Robert are proud of you all.
Well done lads.
