On a windswept day and an extremely poor pitch, Thrapston
started well and were soon into their stride. With goals
from Man of the Match Matthew Smith (2) Luke Stevens (1)
and an own goal putting Thrapston 4 nil up before Thrapston
lost their way, especially at the back and mistakes were
being made everywhere. Thrapston failed to clear their lines
on numerous occasions and were punished twice, from then
on Thrapston had to fight to ensure that they did not throw
the game away, however Thrapston remained cool despite a
number of bizarre refereeing decisions and some theatrical
goings on by the Vikings. It was pleasing to see that the
boys concentrated on the game and did not rise to the bait.
A number of factors prevented this from being a game to
remember, whether it was the state of the pitch or the total
lack of understanding in the Laws of the Game of Association
Football or how to apply them.
