Corby Hellenic Fisher 0 v Thrapston Town
6
Santa looks as though he is going to be very kind this year
because as we finish the campaign for Christmas, the U13’s
find themselves sitting on top of the league not having dropped
a point – more than could ever have wished for at
the start of the campaign. But believe it they thoroughly
deserve to be there on the hard work and football played
thus far.
You could tell Xmas was in the air as the Christmas pudding
of a pitch made fluent football a trifle demanding and Thrapston
were stable rather than splendid this week.
Hellenics were snow turkeys ready to be stuffed and roasted
by the stars from the east – Thrapston – and
the score does not reflect fairly the spirit they played
with. But just as cream rises to the top so Thrapston’s
superiority sprouted and a glittering second half saw Thrapston
blitzen the Hellenics goal to run out 6-0 winners.
Cameron Glynn opened his account for the season of goodwill
shepherding the ball past the despairing keeper. Alexander
Palmer toyed with the Hellenics defence for his first goal
and snowman was going to stop his second when he galloped
through.
Ryan Caller mull-ered his brace but the moment that lit up
the day was Ryan Wrights effort in the dying minutes.
Released from goalkeeping duties Wrighty mistletoed a 2
yarder (with his wrong foot) following some angelic approach
play by William Morrison.
This was not the best performance of the season, but the
defence remains scrooge like and supporters still flock to
the games (more for the food and mulled wine??) for the champagne
moments each game brings. This was a match played with plenty
of seasonal spirit and we thank all players and supporters
from both sides for their efforts.
Happy Xmas everybody – you all know what the manager
wants for next year – silverware!!
