Wollaston Vics 1 v
Thrapston Town 7
Following Thrapston's defeat by Wollaston last week, many
would have thought they were heading for their first away
loss of the season in the return match, but they would have
been mistaken.
Thrapston began the stronger, with Ryan Gavin starting his
first game after transferring from Raunds Tigers, having
a chance cleared off the line after two minutes. Thrapston
took advantage of the strong wind and should have been two
or three goals to the good but it was Wollaston who took
the lead after fifteen minutes of play, a good shot from
the striker after the away side failed to clear. Thrapston
kept on the pressure though and drew level after Matt Wright
shot from long range giving the keeper no chance. Thrapston
then took the lead when Ryan Gavin scored another good goal
with a shot fifteen yards out. Half time 1 - 2.
Thrapston went on the attack from the restart and forced
a corner which Vics only cleared to James Barlow on the left.
His cross was headed, unchallenged by Kai Robinson. Vics
looked shocked and pressed for a goal but Thrapston's defence
looked solid, with Rob Cunningham having a particularly good
game in the centre. With twenty minutes gone, Thrapston extended
their lead when Ryan Gavin scored after a long clearance
from the Thrapston keeper left the Vics defence open. Thrapston
added their fifth, and Ryan's hat-trick shortly after. With
Wollaston heads dropping, Thrapston took full control and
scored a further two goals, both from Kai Robinson who also
completed his hat-trick to finish comfortable 1 - 7 winners.
An excellent performance, in very blustery conditions, keeping
their 100% away record in tact.
