With this being only their second game of the year, Thrapston
started the game slowly and were out played and out fought
in every department by a hard working and keen Generals Team.
A deflected goal put the Generals one up before a defensive
error was punished to put Thrapston further behind and when
a third went in very soon afterwards Thrapston looked dead
and buried. However, with 5 mins of the first half remaining
Connor Gates managed to pull one back.
Thrapston started the second half playing with a desire
that had been missing earlier in the game, fighting for the
ball and preventing the Generals from getting out of their
own half. Although maintaining the majority of possession
Thrapston were unable to create any clear cut chances. The
one chance that was a “sitter” was wasted, when
from less than a yard out with the ball by the goal post
just wanting a tap in, the strikers conspired to miss the
goal completely and that just about summed up our attacking
prowess on the day.
All in all although a poor result for Thrapston the standard
of football from both teams was a joy to watch.
