Vicarage Farm 1 v Thrapston Town
1
An icy morning threatened to put the skids under town, again
bereft of several players, so the 12 available headed to
Wellingborough for this encounter.
1 new cap today – Jo Roberts, and 1 returning star – Chris
Gardener, had bolstered the team to ensure that this game
could go ahead with even numbers.
Within a minute of the kick off, Thrapston’s first
chance was made, a good through ball and strong shot from
Hodgson, smashed onto the bar. Alas the rebound could not
be converted. What a start that would’ve been. Pressure
from Vicarage Farm caused problems in the Thrapston defence,
and only the bar, the post on 2 occasions , another ‘off
the line’ by Josh Scarbrow and some scrambled clearances
kept things level. Thrapston had further chances, with Hodgson
forcing a good save from the Vicarage Farm keeper.
Failing
to clear the lines was to lead to the opener, and from 15
yards or so one of those looping, curling shots into the
top corner put the first score on the board for Vicarage
Farm. Thrapston had further chances, forcing a couple of
first half corners before the moment that gave us some post
match debating material.
A through ball from midfield was latched onto from Zane
Bradshaw Oliver. He strode towards the goal, and with the
keeper to beat, scuffed his shot. Keeper parries only into
the path of Hodgson who fires into the back of the net.
OFFSIDE. . A phrase from Jim Royal comes to mind.
The second half started with Thrapston advancing ‘up
the hill’.. Within 30 seconds a through ball found
Luke Rivett, who held of the defenders to tuck the ball past
the Vicarage Keeper and saw it roll into the back of the
net. Everyones eyes advanced to the Linesman who had correctly
kept his flag down this time.
The Thrapston central midfield and defence were playing
with more enthusiasm now, and Vicarage were kept pretty much
to the long shot in the second half which were all dealt
with easily by the Thrapston keeper. Up front, in amongst
numerous corners and several half chances, there were a couple
of good chances for Thrapston to win the game and take all
3 points.
Although these were not taken, it was still encouraging
to see the lads at least getting into the right areas of
the pitch to make the chances.
So , That’s how it finished – extended the unbeaten
run, and a visit to Castle Rise next week.
Parents and Supporters – We have often make it clear
and praised the support we get from parents for the team.
Always a good crowd, at home matches helping with the nets
etc, and supporting team and club sponsorship on a regular
basis.
Please Please Please though, could I request that whilst
the match is in play, the parents leave the coaching to the
coaches. We want the parents to support and encourage the
whole team, but again today it was noted that in a few cases
( and it was a minority ) there was some over zealous interference
from Thrapston supporters. This only leads to confusion for
the lads – Do I do what the coach / manager is saying,
or do I listen to my dad ?. We are always open to any
tips from any seasoned pro’s who know the game inside
out , but please talk to us outside of the match situation
and leave the match day plans and tactics for us.
Kind request and moan over.
See you next week.
