Thrapston Town 0 v Rockingham Forest
4
It took until January and a very strong Rockingham Forest
team to inflict the first defeat of the season on Thrapston.
You knew it was going to be a good game because for the
first time in what felt like weeks the sun shone prompting
a good sized crowd to fill their lungs with fresh air and
expel it again with some fantastic support.
Rockingham were the stronger team in the first half and
after 20 minutes Thrapston were caught by a couple of sucker
punch goals from balls played behind the defence which exploited
the pace of the Rockingham attack. But Thrapston learnt and
adjusted tactics which made the game much more balanced.
The midfield battled fantastically and on attack the forwards
posed awkward questions of the Rockingham defence.
The second half was a very even affair as both teams fought
close arm combat for domination. With 10 minutes left Alexander
Palmer blazed over Thrapston’s best chance from close
range, which could have made for a different finale.
Alas it was not to be and in the last 2 minutes Thrapston
conceded a controversial goal as the keeper was “assisted” over
the line with the ball, and with all energy expended allowed
a gentle tap in just as the final whistle blew.
The score line does not reflect how hard Rockingham had
to work for this win – Thrapston showed today they
have the heart as well as the skill to compete with the best
the county has to offer and in truth everyone that turned
up was treated to an excellent and entertaining game.
Good luck to Rockingham in the next round and now Thrapston
can fully focus on the league – well done everyone
today and a sincere thanks to everyone who supported the
team so well.
