A very hard battling game today saw us lose to a very strong,
confident Weekley side.
It was a very bright start for Thrapston, who were keeping the attacking Weekley
players at bay with firm challenges from Aiden, Jake & Adam. But the Weekley
team were very strong & a few lapses in concentration saw us soon falling
behind to some very well worked goals. Going into half time we were 4-0 down.
Changes at half time were needed, with John, Tom & Dominic coming on for
Jake, Aiden & Adam.
Fergus in midfield was starting to thread some neat balls through to Tom, who
was making excellent runs through the Weekley defence.
One opportunity for Tom ended in him being fouled in the area, & being awarded
a penalty. Tom stepped up to take the kick himself, but swung at it so hard that
he scuffed his shot into the keepers hands.
A good second half performance was looking to be goal-less until the Weekley
goalkeeper started to make surging runs forward & a last minute shot saw
the ball trickle over the line to end the game 5-0 to Weekley.
A good all round performance by everyone involved, with the Weekley side just
a little stronger & more attacking than us.
But our lads are gaining the experience & confidence & are learning more & more
each week.
