In a one-sided game, Thrapston dominated from the start,
creating a number of chances in the first half but with only
one goal to show for their efforts; a knock in from Bret
Manchette’s knee after good built up play by Josh Catchpole
and James Barlow. Half time 0 – 1.
The second half saw Thrapston take full advantage of the
windy conditions and were 0 – 2 up after ten minutes
when Kai Robinson scored from a long clearance from stand-in
goal keeper Sam Nowlan. Although Oakley did venture into
the Thrapston half on occasions, some resolute defending
kept them at bay, with Rob Cunningham playing especially
well. Thrapston kept up the pressure at the other end and
were soon another goal to the good, Kai Robinson finishing
well on the break. With Oakley heads dropping Thrapston took
full advantage and pressed for more goals. Thrapston had
numerous corners, which in the past have struggled to convert
into goals, but not today. Josh Catchpole scored twice with
unchallenged headers and hitting the bar with another. With
the game almost done, two Thrapston players completed the
rout with a hat-trick a piece, Kai Robinson with another
good finish on the break and Josh Catchpole with a turn and
shot to make the final score 0 – 7.
A very good performance throughout the team, especially
in defence, and the first time in 69 games that Thrapston
have kept a clean sheet!
