This week's game against the free-scoring Kettering
Generals Red team was not as one-sided as the scoreline suggests.
A few jittery moves from the kick-off pinned us back for a
few minutes, but then Thomas began to control the midfield
and Jordan and Craig were soon trying for goal. The Generals
caught us on the break for a simple first goal, which is how
the other 3 of the first half came in. Jack battled well on
the left and Matthew swept up just about every ball that came
by him. Lewis managed to pull off some tremendous stretching
saves as the half-time whistle blew. Joshua and Ethan came
on for the second half and Ethan was immediately tested by
some incredible surging runs by the Generals and many strong
drives at goal. However, it was another 10 minutes before
they finally used height against him and the goal was breached.
Thomas made sure heads did not drop too much and Harry used
his aerial strength to protect goal admirably and start some
fast runs thanks to Josh's hard tackling.
Lucaas came on for a few minutes and starting some probing
runs and we threatened the Generals' goal with Thomas coming
closest but suffering a painful collision with their goalkeeper.
Craig battled really well in midfield and managed another
couple of shots as Jordan held the ball up well and used his
head tactically.
The team is really gelling now and our first victory is close.
MOM Thomas-he battled for every ball and kept the rest of
the team working together and playing as a unit.
My personal thanks for all the support from the parents (as
usual) and for James for his very fair refereeing and his
great coaching. We wouldn't have a team without all of you!
