FC Aztec Braves 4 v Thrapston Town 1
This week's game against the "enthusiastic"
FC Aztec Braves team was one that we had looked forward to.
From the kick-off we defended valiantly with Matthew appearing
behind every ball. A few knocks and tumbles followed with
Thomas and Lucaas taking a few hard tackles. A slip in our
new defensive formation put through their best player for
an unstoppable goal. Rather than let that get the team down,
they seemed to actually play even better and some fine moves
were put together, resulting in some fast forward runs by
Lucaas, some really intelligent balls by Thomas, some great
interceptions by Harry, and some clever midfield breaches
by Jordan. However, as the clock ran down on the first half,
it was Craig who battled to win the ball in his own half and
then single-handedly take on the Braves as his initial and
second shots were blocked by their keeper. The third shot,
however, was not, and Craig earned his third goal of the season.
This prompted some very fast attacks by the opposition just
before the break but Lewis was adamant they would not succeed
and we went into half-time even and deservedly so.
The second half started much more ruggedly than we were prepared
for and the tackles flew in hard. George came on for his debut
as Jordan rested for a moment. The second goal was from a
set piece-a corner and was due to a mis-kick. This prompted
our own counter-attack, which sadly resulted in Lucaas and
Lewis being carried off the pitch in separate incidents and
Thomas retiring shortly after. Josh came on to lift spirits
as his surging runs caused the Braves more problems. Jordan
back on and George moved in to to cover for Lucaas. Ethan
was on for Lewis and his courage really kept FC Aztec at bay.
Sadly another mis-kick between our own players resulted in
a soft goal. It was then that Gold really pulled together
to try and get something out of the game. Pass after pass
and move after move kept up the pressure well, but with no
result. However, a lofty shot out of Ethan's reach sealed
the points in the dying minutes of the game.
Yet again, no-one's head dropped and Gold battled for every
ball until the final whistle.
Another admirable performance-everyone played so well and
worked so hard that it made our Man of The Match decision
incredibly hard this week. (We missed Jack's hard tackling
this week, too).
MOM Craig-he battled so well today and made his own goal with
exceptional clarity of vision.
My personal thanks for all the great support from all the
parents (especially those that helped setting up the goal).
This is your team!
