Thrapston Town Blue 10 v Thrapston Town Gold

This week's game was our first taste of a local
derby against the Thrapston Blue team. From the first touch
of the ball, it was apparent that it was going to be a game
played at a blistering pace. Matthew was immediately called
into action and Jack sprinted hard after every ball. A few
shots came raining down but Ethan was equal to the task and
took them with ease. Jordan, playing in an unfamilar role,
had many quick and skilful balls to deal. Craig was forced
to come back with Thomas to defend the line. Just as Josh
got in a smashing tackle, the ball suddenly span away and
was picked up for a very unlucky goal. As part of our increasing
team spirit, heads again did not drop and there were some
good moves by everybody playing as a unit. We closed up shop
and even got in some good attacks as the whistle blew for
half-time.
However, as we were three players down thanks to half-term,
we could not use our usual "fresh legs" rotation
policy and immediately within the first few seconds of the
second half we were caught cold and a second goal was scored
after a mix-up in defence. George was then on and looking
hungrily for the ball. Our concentration and tiredness crept
in with everyone else and we experienced an awful 10 minute
period when no less than 6 goals were let in through all manner
of mis-timed passes and failures to mark. Matthew took a knock
and Josh was back on, this time in defence, and the goals
stopped-for a while. Their ninth was virtually unstoppable
and their tenth was even more of a clever play by the Blues,
who have progressed so well after 2 seasons playing together.
We in no way surrendered and Jordan, Thomas and Jack followed
Craig up the pitch and all came so very close to scoring on
more than one occasion in the final minutes. The confidence
came flowing back and it was disappointing to hear the final
whistle come before we could get something out of the game.
Another encouraging performance-everyone played so well at
some point in the game and it made our Man of The Match decision
very hard yet again.
MOM Jack-he battled so well today in two positions and showed
us what he can do with courage and diligence.
My personal thanks for all the usual great and encouraging
support from all the parents! This is your team!
