Thrapstons first taste of cup action saw them
progress to the next round although not without some cause
for concern.
Early in the first half we went one up when Ryan Watkin opened
his account for the season with a well taken goal, Thrapston
should have added to this during a dominant first half but
the final clinical finish was just not there.
With a change of strike force for the second half, Weekley
began to fight back and a good shot from the edge of the box
saw them equalise half way in to the second half, Thrapston
continued to push for the winner but again were unable to
convert a number of good chances.
Extra time and Thrapston immediately broke down the right
hand side and Matthew Smith crosses the ball to find a Weekly
defender to poke the ball passed a stranded keeper to put
Thrapston 2 – 1 up. With this we sensed the game was
ours and upped the work rate and found top gear. Early in
the second period of extra time “Man of the Match “
Ryan Watkin split open the Weekley defence with a superb first
time ball that saw Connor Ryan through with only the keeper
to beat. Connor coolly lobbed the keepr and Thrapston were
3 – 1 up.
Thrapston continued to pressure Weekley and the fourth duly
came when a rejuvenated Luke Stevens who had previously been
out of form, pounced on a goalkeeping error to rifle the ball
into an empty net from 4 yards out.
