Thrapston Town 6 v Corby Kingswood Swifts 2
A match unfortunately which is likely to be
remembered more for the unsavory ending after the whistle
had blown (the downside of the influence that Premiership
footballers have) rather than the footballing comeback Thrapston
performed.
Although starting brightly and taking an early lead through
Ryan Caller, Thrapston sat back and expected to win purely
because they had turned up. The Swifts had other plans, battled
hard unsettling the Thrapston rhythm until finally routing
them through a penalty and goal, to deservedly take the advantage
at half time.
Honesty can be harsh on young ears, and the half time soliloquy
from the Thrapston manager was full of honesty! And it worked,
Thrapston were a totally different force in the second half.
Galvanized by the introduction of Alex Rutter after an enforced
lay off through injury, Thrapston displayed a steely determination
throughout the team and it was Rutter who brought the score
level bursting through from midfield to calmly slot the ball
home.
Composure reinstated Thrapston turned on the style and encamped
themselves in the Kingswood half, laying siege to the Swifts
goal. Ryan Caller magnificently completed his hatrick and
the powerful Alexander Palmer helped himself to a brace of
quality goals to secure the win.
Thrapston were unrecognizable from their first half performance
because they played to their potential, gaining just reward
for playing good football. However hard lessons have to be
learnt about the physical and psychological way football can
be played and how you react to it, if Thrapston are to continue
heading up this division.
