Thrapston Town 4 v Ise Lodge Hawks 0
A first for both teams in this floodlit match
which was illuminated right from the opening 10 minutes with
a hatrick from the red hot Thrapston striker Ryan Caller –
his third in as many games. So the seeds were apparently sown
for a good old-fashioned thrashing, which the sizeable crowd
that had turned up anticipated.
To their credit the 11 Hawks rallied magnificently against
the league leaders and for periods took the fight to Thrapston,
creating several good chances as the Thrapston defence became
stretched. No more goals were witnessed but a healthy dose
of good approach play, goalmouth scrambles and resilient defence
kept the crowd well entertained.
In the second period Thrapston made many changes to give
the squad the opportunity of playing under the lights and
this undoubtedly affected the Thrapston rhythm to some extent.
However it was Thrapston who were to dominate proceedings
creating and spurning many good chances as the Hawks defended
bravely and their keeper performed heroically.
A solitary second half goal from William Morrison, a drive
from the edge of the box which nutmegged several defenders
before nestling into the corner of the net, was scant reward
for the chances that were created by Thrapston especially
as the Hawks tired.
Thrapston know they should have had a bigger score line but
in truth this would have been harsh on a weakened Ise Lodge
team, playing on a strength sapping pitch as they battled
with great distinction. So justice was done and everyone associated
with the nights football went home happy – thanks to
everyone involved.
