Despite a division difference between the two
teams, Thrapston matched S & L for the majority of the
game and nearly took the match into extra time with a late
equaliser, but in the end couldn’t hold out. S &
L started the stronger and took the lead after 15 minutes,
after Thrapston’s goalkeeper failed to clear at the
back. The home side battled back though and were rewarded
with a goal on the stroke of half time; a stunning shot by
Jason Styles to make it 1 – 1 at the break.
From the restart Thrapston were once again a
goal down after failing to clear from a corner. Both sides
then seem to cancel each other out for most of the second
half until three minutes from the end when Thrapston scored
with a Pete Whight shot on the edge of the box beating a diving
keeper. With the game looking good for extra time, S &
L pressed and scored with the last kick of the match to put
them through to the next round. Final score 2 – 3.
