Thrapston started brightly, with Josh Catchpole
on the left and Jason Styles on the right causing particular
problems for the Grendon defence. Within the first 15 minutes
Thrapston had a string of corners, along with a number of
other chances, but couldn't find the net. After 20 minutes,
Grendon scored on the break, and then doubled their lead after
converting a penalty following a clumsy tackle in the box.
With 10 minutes remaining in the first half, some neat play
by Pete Whight set up Josh Catchpole to score from six yards
to make it 1 - 2 at half time.
With Grendon kicking down the hill in the second
half, Thrapston struggled to gain any ground, and went further
behind after ten minutes of the restart. Thrapston lifted
themselves and were awarded a penalty after Kai Robinson was
pushed after a good run towards goal. Unfortunately the penalty
wasn't converted and shortly afterwards the home side went
2 - 4 down. Within minutes of this, both sides were down to
ten men each following an incident which resulted in two players
being sent off for violent conduct. With Thrapston pushing
forward, the game got stretched and it was Grendon who scored
again to make the final score 1 - 5.
