Thrapston Town 2 v Ise Lodge Hawks 2
The first point of the season came from a very
physical and challenging game, against Ise Lodge Hawks, determined
to repeat their fellow teams’ success against Thrapston.
However, it was only luck and excellent goalkeeping that prevented
the Gold Team from scoring two in the first two minutes, closely
followed by two more terrific shots from Craig and Jordan,
after Harry worked the ball well. Then totally against the
run of play, we were caught out and conceded a defenceless
goal. However, this week, heads did not go down and within
a few minutes Craig worked his way through their defence after
an excellent run by Lucaas and he clinically scored his second
of the season. Harry continued to provide short forward balls
but despite Jack’s hard tackles and Matt’s relentless
defending, Thomas was caught out on the left and Ise Lodge
scored just before half-time. They could have scored another
2 but for Lewis’ heroic control of his area.
By the time the second half began, we were again tired but
still appeared very determined. Ise Lodge came at us harder
than before, but we stood tall and proud and everyone came
back to defend when needed, despite Ise Lodge’s superior
runs and passing. We continued to take them on the break and
that finally paid off after another Lucaas run. Shots from
him, Jordan, Craig and Jack caused a deflection that set up
Thomas to redeem himself wonderfully and take an excellent
goal.
With the bit firmly between our teeth, we appeared to have
that extra edge to let us win but Ise Lodge came back fiercely
and aggressively and the final whistle was called after a
checking tackle took Lucaas off the pitch.
MOM Lewis-his natural skill and bravery drove the team on
to our first point.
