Thrapston Town 3 v Kettering Generals Red 2
Just like Woosie’s Ryder Cup Heroes, Thrapston
retained their winning form – but only just as this
game was settled on the proverbial 18th in a nail biting finish.
For all the early opportunities created by Thrapston it was
the Generals who went one up following a defensive slip. Ebb
and flow followed and cometh the hour cometh the captain for
the day, as Charlie Whight drove an unstoppable shot into
the top corner.
So all square at the turn with Thrapston holding the slight
initiative against a very well organised and resilient Generals
defence.
Thrapston went ahead with an excellently worked opening by
Alexander Palmer set Ryan Wright free to bury the opportunity
and all looked good for a Thrapston win by one. But Generals
had not read the script as they fought back and squared the
match going into the dying minutes.
To be fair both managers would have accepted this match halved,
but Thrapston this year have forgotten how to accept anything
but win. It fell to the Thrapston “Montgomeryesque”
talisman, Ryan Caller, to secure the win, courtesy of Ryan
Wright, who left his pass stone dead to allow the finish to
be buried into the bottom corner.
This season (to date) has been as good as it gets, a 100%
record against teams we respect and admire, playing entertaining
and exciting football matches. All players in this match should
take great heart from the way they played and sporting manner
this game was played in.
