Boro Alliance Cougars 2 v Thrapston Town 4
Thrapston started the stronger team, good work
on the right by Jason Styles had the Boro defence back peddling
on the right, with the home side hardly troubling the Thrapston
defence. The first goal came after 15 minutes, a good run
and finish by Jason Styles. Within a minute, Boro were level,
Thrapston keeper bringing down the Boro striker in a clumsy
challenge; Boro scoring the resulting penalty. Thrapston soon
restored their lead, Simon Smith, as lone striker, taking
his chance well. Shortly before half time Thrapston increased
the score line, good passing between Josh Catchpole, Brett
Manchette and Keith Boyle put Kai Robinson clear, Kai scoring
with a low shot to the right. Boro were awarded a second penalty
shortly afterwards, a hand ball, with Oli Ventham saving the
shot but not quick enough to prevent the striker from scoring
on the rebound. Half time 2 - 3.
With a swap of goal keepers in the second half due to injury,
this did little to disrupt a Thrapston side that could smell
their first victory in nearly two seasons. Thrapston scored
their fourth mid-way through the second half, an unfortunate
pass hitting the referee allowing Thrapston to break and Josh
Catchpole finishing well. Thrapston had plenty of chances
to kill the game but couldn't finish. Alliance looked to get
back in the game but Simon Smith, the Thrapston reserve goal
keeper, had little to do. Final score 2 - 4.
