Thrapston Town
5 v Ise Lodge 2
If we thought last weeks “Team” performance was good, today’s game was even better!!
Thrapston started well and took the attack to Ise Lodge. On two minutes Luke Stevens flicked the ball onto Matty Smith, who coolly lobbed the keeper, what a start. Within a minute Thrapston were 2 up when Luke Stevens volleyed in from close range, the crowd were stunned, Thrapston have never played so well. However, being the good team that they are, Ise Lodge fought back and scored a goal following sloppy defending. Just before half time Ise scored again to make it 2 –2. Everything for both teams to play for in the second half.
Thrapston this week learnt from last week’s mistake of sitting back and attacked from the start and were rewarded when Jake Hankins, playing in his new position of striker, broke away and for the second time in the game the keeper was beaten with a well placed lob, although Ise tried they could not break down a stubborn defence . Man of the Match being Sam Joyce who didn’t let a ball or player past him all game. As the game went on Thrapston’s dominance was rewarded when Matthew Smith provided a great ball in for Jake Hankins to score his second of the game, again multiple substitutions were made and Luke Stevens who had been bought off in the first half following a collision, returned to replace a worn out Jake Hankins and within a couple of minutes turned the defender inside out before slotting home his 20th goal of the season and Thrapston’s 5th and final goal of the game.
Following last weeks excellent performance the “Team” have again dug deep and stepped up to another level, hard work, good finishing being key against a very good Ise Lodge team. What more could the Manager have wanted on his 30th Birthday!!
What a present – Thanks boys.!!
