A great night was enjoyed by both teams and the result probably fair given the spirited fight back by Corby Hellenic.
With the boys experiencing playing under floodlights for the first time in their short careers both teams were up for the occasion and started well playing lovely football, both teams putting each others goals under pressure early on.
Soon Thrapston began to get into their stride and Jake Hankins turn of speed again enabled him to out pace the defender and for the third time in 2 games calmly lob the keeper to put Thrapston one nil up. Corby were never out of the game and only some stout defending ensured Thrapston went in at half time in the lead.
Giving a fair opportunity for all to experience playing “under lights” Thrapston made a number of changes at half time and started well, a great run and pinpoint cross from Aaron Wright was clinicaly finished by Matthew Smith to put Thrapston two up. Still Corby pressurized and with 5 mins to go the central defense of Thrapston was split and with the Thrapston Keeper having a rush of blood to the head and committing himself to a ball that he was never going to get to, the striker calmly finished to pull one back. Thrapston were now noticeably tiring and the goal had given Hellenic that extra injection of energy and with 2 mins to go they equalized with our defensive errors being punished.
Overall this was a fair result of a very exciting game. The boys from both teams I believe thoroughly enjoyed the game and the experience.
I would also like to thank the parents, players and supporters from both teams who came and enjoyed the game and who I am sure will agree that the football played by both teams was superb.
