In a rescheduled game today against the unbeaten Earls Barton from the Red Division, the Yellows were looking to progress to the next round of the League Cup. Earls game plan from the start was to stop the Yellows from playing their free flowing football. After a tight start Scott started to find some room down the right and from one of his trademark crosses Max found himself with the simplest of finishes to put the Yellows in the lead. 1 - 0.
Then from a mix up in the box, Earls clawed themselves back. 1-1. With Curtis, Joe, Andrew and Liam in defence dealing well with Earls long ball game and Harry and Connor in midfield starting to spread the play Thrapston started to turn the screw. From a throw on the left handside , Dean made a great run skinned the defender and slotted home to make the score 2-1. Scott now taking control down the right hand side, crossed the ball to the far post and an Earl's defender turned the ball into his own net.3-1. Although Thrapston were now on top, we still managed to let Earls back into the game with some poor defensive work conceding a goal just before half time.
3-2.
2nd Half
Hayden on for Andrew, Ben for Liam, Kern for Luke.
With the game a little sloppy at the start of the 2nd Half, Thrapston were still looking to play all the football. From a free kick of fully 25 yards, Connor let fly with a screamer which crashed in off the crossbar. 4-2. Following some continued Thrapston pressure, Joe made the score 5-2 to the Yellows following a succession of Thrapston corners. Liam on for Jack, Andrew on for Harry. With a slight change in formation and the best goal yet to come,Thrapston put together a flowing five pass move, ending with a superb cross from Scott, Connor grabbed his second of the game with a great header to complete the scoring. Final Score 6-2.
Well done everybody, a gutsy performance with at times some excellent football being played.
Thanks to the parents, friends and supporters for their usual great enthusiasm.
Man of The Match: Connor.
