Thrapston Blue dominated this game on a muddy sticky pitch but only came away with a draw. Playing up the slope in the first half Blues played some good passing football but over elaborated at times and went in goalless at the break. In the second half it was all one way traffic with the Swifts goalkeeper making a string of saves as Blues pressed forward. The breakthrough came when Joseph Wright forced the ball home when the keeper fumbled the ball from Wright’s initial effort.
The expected avalanche of goals never came as Blues failed to capitalize on their possession with all players guilty at times of holding on to the ball just too long. Late in the second half Blues paid the penalty when they were caught on the break as Swifts equalized. A speculative ball found the Swifts striker on the half way line and he outpaced the Blues defender to finish with a fine shot into the top corner.
Although a disappointing result Blues played some excellent football and have made good progress through this first half of the season.
MOM – Awarded to all 7 players for a great team performance.
