Thrapston Town Yellow 1 v Ise Lodge Kestrels 1
Another great performance both individually and as a team by the Thrapston Town Under 10 Yellow’s.
Our boys are going from strength to strength. Just as we’d asked, the boys were started strongly from the kick off….building on last weeks match. The first 10 minutes saw us dominate match creating several chances which either went just wide or were cleared by a stubborn Ise Lodge defence. It was therefore against the general run of play that the Kestrels scored with a well taken goal.
It was at this point in the match that Mark and I realised what a great team the boys are becoming. Though disappointed at conceding not one head in the team went down. Several shouts of “come on” could be heard and a few players clapped encouragement to their teammates. Off they went again, same style…passing, moving, creating space and making chances. Sure enough, it only took our boys 5 minutes to score a well deserved equalizer with Sam putting the ball away.
Half time 1-1.
The second half was a slightly more even affair. The Kestrels had the advantage of the slope and used it to put us under more pressure than they’d in the first half. Once again, from goalkeeper, defenders through the midfield to the strikers the boys displayed fantastic resilience, commitment and quality. It must be said that it was not all one way traffic. Despite an unusually warm day for February the effort and desire put in to try and win the match by our boys was fantastic.
The heat meant that many changes were made in the second half. This disrupted some of our play – but the players coming off had run themselves into the ground. Everybody gave 100%. Nobody could ask for more.
To everybody’s surprise the second half remained goalless. The game ended in a draw.
Boys – If any of you are reading this you should once again be proud of yourselves. You all played great football and put in a fantastic amount of effort for the team.
