It was good to be back playing football after a 3 week break!! Unfortunately the break has made us forget just how hard we need to work if we are to compete and win games. In the first half good work by Matthew Smith created numerous chance for the strikers who were just unable to find that finishing touch. However, following a good shot Jamie Gambrell, which the keeper could only parry, Connor Ryan scored a fine poachers goal being on hand to bury the ball in the net and put Thrapston 1 up. Weekley battled well and only some fine goalkeeping kept the score at 1- 0 at half time.
Thrapston came out for the second half and camped themselves in the Weekley half of the pitch but strong defending, poor finishing and again superb goalkeeping prevented Thrapston initially going further in front, it took a fine shot from “ Man of the Match” Jamie Gambell to put Thrapston 2 up and Luke Stevens added a third when he ran onto a through ball and slotted it home after rounding the keeper.
A good start to the second half of the season but we need to work harder and learn how to finish, we will not always get the amount of chances we had today to score goals.
Finally a special mention to the Weekley Keeper who was superb in goal today, producing a number of great saves. Well played.
