Thrapston Town

It was a week of firsts:
First time in ages we played on a decent pitch
First time for our new look back four to play together following the current injuries
First time this year we have kept a clean sheet
First time we have scored a goal in the first minute
4-4-2, closing down and first to the ball – is just about all that was said in the pre match spiel. The majority of the planning had been taken in where to play certain personnel following our injuries , squad selection , and the want to get back to winning ways following last weeks cup exit.
Within 40 seconds, Tom Alsop had caught the RR defence standing and weaved his way through the box to smash one over the keeper. Two further quickly taken goals from Josh Ledward put the yellows 3-0 ahead and the game pretty much over after 15 minutes. The RR defence appeared to concede that they were not going to catch the Thrapston forwards and further first half goals from Luke Rivett, Devante Hodgson and another from Tom Alsop made it 6 – 0 at half time. There had been some great football in this period, good shape to the formation and solid defending all round on the forays forward made by RR.
The second half started with some changes of personnel on both teams and this certainly appeared to have an impact on RR who battled harder, created a few chances of their own and made the half a little harder for the Thrapston boys. Further goals from Luke Rivett and Devante Hodgson completed the scoreline in what was a well deserved victory and more importantly clean sheet.
A good performance from all today – and next weeks fixture break will give time for all the squad to be fit and challenging for places for the seasons closing key games.
MOM – Sam Gallagher – a mountain of strength in a great defence performance.
