In this first ‘derby’ game between the 2 U8’s ThrapstonTown teams, a great individual goal from Tom Elbrow sealed a win for the Yellows.
Kicking uphill with the wind, the yellows put pressure on the blues from the start with a series of attacks & corners. The blues were struggling to take control & some fantastic defending from John, Matthew & Tom stopped the yellows early chances.
Tom Francis took a knock in the face & had to take a rest, with Jake coming on for him.
Our chances in the first half were limited as the yellows defense stood firm, & played very well.
Then, Tom Elbrow received the ball just outside the blues area & with a quick drop of the shoulder & good control placed a shot into the bottom corner of the goal.
1-0 to the yellows.
Half time substitutes were made with Adam coming on for Matthew, & Tom coming back on for Jake. With the wind behind the blues in the second half, we put pressure on the blues from the start, & again the yellows defense were dealing with our attacks.
John took a ball hard on the top of his leg & had to be replaced with Matthew coming back on. Tom, Peter & Kyle were all making good runs towards the yellows area, with last ditch defending keeping them out.
Tom then won the ball down the left side & charged down the wing to put an excellent cross in for Peter, who slid in to meet the ball at the near post, but shot just inches wide. More solid defending from the yellows was keeping the blues at bay, & the odd breakaway was made with Tom Elbrow making great runs, only to be denied by great defending from Matthew & Adam.
With both keepers hardly touching the ball, it was a great battle, settled by a great solo goal from Tom.
All in all a good game to watch with both teams playing in good spirit.
Well done to both teams.
