After a recent run of poor results this was the Blues getting back to their early season form; pace, passing, movement & solid defending.
The ebb and flow of the first 5 mins saw both teams put each other under pressure. A Burton attack saw John take the ball away and then move up field, finding Peter with a ball that he took on and buried in the net to takes the Blues up 1-0. A Burton attack soon followed, one on one with the keeper but Aiden got down well to smother the danger. With Mathew mopping up well as a defensive midfielder and Kyle playing some lovely through balls through to Tom & Peter the Blues started to take more control of the game. From a Burton corner John cleared the ball well straight to Peter who ran ¾’s the length of the pitch to score his second and take us into the break 2-0 up.
Adam came on for Tom, pushing Kyle up front while Dominic came on for Mathew and the second half started as the first ended with John taking the ball from a Burton attack, pushing it forward to Peter who ran on for his hatrick. With Dominic proving solid in defense and Adam running all over the pitch in midfield, Kyle took a lose ball and passed to Peter. 4-0.
After his fourth Peter came off for Tom who made an almost immediate impact. Taking the ball from a great tackle and pass from Dominic Tom passed wide to Kyle who buried a cross goal shot from the edge of he box to make it 5-0.
In the dying seconds a defensive error allowed a good Burton shot from just inside the box. Aiden got down well to his right to deny the goal and earn a well deserved clean sheet.
MOM
John Vertigan for a great display of tackling, passing and clearing danger.
