Its been a full 49 days since Thrapston took part in their last league match, and in that time no doubt scores of Selection Boxes, Dozens of Christmas Puds and the odd Gallon or two of carbonated drinks will have been consumed by the team in yellow and blue.
How they would fare today in their first match of 2008 though in a gale force wind was yet to be seen. Camberwick Green sprang to mind.
It didn’t start off that well – As usual we lost the toss and were turned around to play against the wind in the first half. We could see in the warm up the effect that this was having on the goal, and had concluded that if we kept a clean sheet in the first half, then we would have a great chance to go on to win the game in the second half.
Due to the windy miller weather, the majority of the first period was played in Thrapstons half, with everything being dealt with by the solid display from the Thrapston defence. There were a couple of those ooh aah moments when speculative shots whistled over the bar, but I am told that the keeper had them covered. Thrapston broke several times but the shots against the wind kept failing to trouble the Grange goal. The deadlock was broken though when Devante Hodgson seemed to juggle the ball on his shoulder chest knees and toes, before blasting the ball into the back of the Grange net.
Within 3 minutes of the Second half Thrapston were 3 up courtesy of Jordan Davis and Devante Hodgson as the Yellows dominated possession and played in the Grange Half. A lack of chasing back and tackling let in Grange for their consolation. There was more to come though as the determination and skill shown particularly by Tom Alsop , Luke Rivett and Devante Hodgson to run at and beat the Grange defence to provide Devante Hodgson with a further brace , Tom Alsop, Josh Ledward and Zane Bradshaw – Oliver finished the rout.
A great team effort today and good attitude to win the game.
League program is again deferred for next week for the BIG CUP WEEKEND that sees us being matched away to Wellingborough Town.
