The season is long and hard with plenty of twists and turns on the way – A bit like a soap opera I suppose, with the storyline changing both throughout the game and the season.
Todays soap opera had guest stars – Robbie and Arsene and was set around a school playing field in Wellingborough.
The scene starts the night before with a dutch party that had all the players up until late – and we know from history what can happen there.
It was the home clubs birthday and they had been given a subbuteo pitch as a present to play on today.
Unfortunately Robbie had already been down to the pitch with Grandmaster Flash to ensure that the whole area was devoid of any white lines.
The short pitch was probably more suitable for 8 a side and apparently, someone saw Ken Livingstone on the side, looking to extend the congestion zone further to the North. This didn’t suit Thrapstons style of play and they regularly had to deal with the hoof forward straight into the box.
The deadlock was broken when some confident play by one of the WT players who dodged challenge after challenge to get inside the Thrapston box and slide past the Thrapston keeper.
There had been some contact of the studs in the knee kind in the box though, and one of the Thrapston defenders got to spend the rest of the afternoon in the hospital looking at the fine nurses ( so I am told ) and is out for the next 4 weeks. The referee ( played by Arsene ) claimed that he didn’t ……….you know and the game carried on.
Thrapston soon equalised through some great play from Tom Alsop, but were caught out bang on half time with the sucker punch of a 2nd goal from WT.
The second half was more open and further chances were created by Thrapston but not converted. Arsene had used his phrase over and again in this period, and the next goal was going to be crucial.
This went to WT, who at 3-1 up were celebrating. Romello Hodgson made it 3-2 with a tap in to keep it going right to the final whistle, but today just wasn’t to be.
Credit to the Wellingborough lads for their part – the awful pitch wasn’t their fault, and on the day, the game could have gone either way, with Thrapston having more and the better chances, but WT coming out on top.
2 key players for Thrapston today who the coaching team thought had a tremendous game – Connor Morson and Sam Gallagher – great attitude well done.
So the end of todays soap and Thrapston had slipped up on it.
What will next weeks edition bring – Scandal, Love, Murder, deceit . Who will the guest stars be ?
